Who We are

  • God has a purpose and plan for every person. Part of our purpose at WBC is to help you experience God's love and discover that unique purpose and plan He has for your life. We do this by trying to keep the Gospel central in everything we do. In the words of the Apostle Paul, we believe that the Gospel is of "first importance" so we should constantly reflect on it and base our lives and ministries around it. There are a lot of things people seek in a church, and there are a lot of things we could do, but we have purposed to keep the gospel the main thing. Therefore our message is clear and simple. We believe that the hope for Wilmington and the nations is the gospel; we believe that it is the "power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes." We want to saturate this community and the world with the "good news" by proclaiming it individually and as a church through our actions and words. This is who we are.

OUR PURPOSE

  • Our Purpose is to share the love of Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit with the hope that many will become members of His Family, developing in Christ-like maturity to prepare them for ministry in the church, and to do missions in the world,  in order to magnify God.

BECOME MEMBERS

OF HIS FAMILY

  • We believe the reason people feel unsettled and unhappy is because they have rejected God's authority in their life. This rejection has left us under a state of separation from Him and His absence has left a void in our hearts. But Jesus, God in the flesh, in great love, absorbed God's righteous wrath against our sin through His death on the cross. God invites us through faith in Jesus to receive forgiveness, reconciliation, and a relationship with Him. At WBC, we're not into superficial answers or spiritual quick-fixes. We don't believe the way to restore our hearts or our families is found in psychological techniques or behavior modification strategies. The answer is to turn from our self-worshiping, self-serving lifestyles and experience the radical, life-changing love of God in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and become a part of His Family.

Developing in Christ-like maturity

  • We believe the church is to develop and grow healthy disciples of Christ and a healthy disciple will naturally perform two actions. First, he will love fellow disciples. Love is one of the major marks of a real follower of Jesus. We love each other. We're friends with each other. We eat together. We're with each other when our children are born. We're there when someone dies. We do life together. You can't be a spectator in the body of Christ, so WBC strives to be a community where people know each other and are known. Second, a disciple will serve. We equip you and provide opportunities to serve in worship, various ministries, and outreach programs as a response to Christ's love for you. We want to help you grow in your knowledge and relationship with Christ so that you will naturally love and serve in His name.

To Magnify God

  • We believe that God is the Author of culture and Director of daily life. We want to take the kingdom of God into the homes, businesses, schools, restaurants, ball-fields, and every other area of our community. We believe that real "worship" and "ministry" happens outside the church and not just inside our sanctuary. In other words, we're not here to condemn our culture or simply survive it. We are here to transform it for God's glory; we are here to magnify His name in it. Our desire is to proclaim and magnify Christ's name every day and in every part of our community.

To do Missions

  • When it comes to reaching people with the gospel, we are willing to be creative and focused. Scriptural values and the essential message of the gospel will never change, but our methods of outreach will. Our cultural traditions are expendable, because we believe sacrificing for the gospel starts with giving up what is comfortable to us. We believe because of Christ's sacrifice for us, we should be willing to go to whatever extent it takes to reach those in our community and the world He created and died for.
