From the Holy Huddle to the Holy Mission

Pastor Eddie Eaton teaches from Acts 2:42–47 on moving “From the Holy Huddle to the Holy Mission.” Continuing the Becoming a Missional Church series, he contrasts a church centered on its own comfort, preferences, and survival with a church committed to obedience to Christ, equipping disciples, serving its community, and reaching people who are not yet part of the church.

The early church devoted itself to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. These were not ends in themselves: life together overflowed into mission. Word-centered discipleship formed people for obedience; deep fellowship trained them to love others; shared tables opened opportunities for gospel conversations; and prayer expressed dependence on God for boldness, power, and open doors. Awe, sacrificial generosity, everyday faithfulness, joyful worship, and a credible community witness accompanied this life, while the Lord added those being saved.

Practical responses include establishing a daily Bible-and-prayer rhythm, participating in Life Groups and D-Groups, recording one specific step of obedience, encouraging fellow believers, inviting others into normal routines, practicing simple hospitality, praying for lost people by name, and using time, skills, and resources to meet needs. The closing call is to repent of self-centered church life, return to the basic devotions, ask what God wants from us, and reach out intentionally. Healthy disciples make disciples; a healthy church is formed by God, filled with God, and sent by God.
